Tenaris, an accredited member of the Climate Action Program

For a third consecutive year, Tenaris has been recognized by the World Steel Association for its participation in the Climate Action Program, which acknowledges steel producers who have fulfilled their commitment to participate in the worldsteel carbon dioxide emissions data collection program.

All steel companies are invited to report their plant’s carbon dioxide emissions in an online database, which will contribute to understanding the current level of emissions from the production of steel worldwide and to identifying benchmark improvements in different countries.

Tenaris’s steel production is done through the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) route, using recycled steel (scrap) as well as mineral-based metallic charge. The Electric Arc Furnace route is an efficient way to produce steel in terms of CO2 generation.

Tenaris’s energy savings project, which was launched in 2009, is providing the framework to identify improvement opportunities to decrease the specific energy consumption of its main mills, contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

“We will continue to be active participants in World Steel Association programs and particularly in the Climate Action Program as we recognize this is and will continue to be a critical issue for our business which should be addressed by the whole steel industry,” said Stefano Muller, Tenaris Health, Safety and Environment Director.
