| The Race for the Cure is a three-mile run/walk, but its more than just a race. It is an event to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrate survivors and honor those who have lost their battle to the disease.
The Houston race was first held in 1991 and attracted 1,800 participants and raised $31,000. This year’s race, which took place on Saturday, October 2, attracted 35,000 participants and raised $3 million to fight the disease. Today, the Houston race is considered one of the largest in the county.
"Seeing thousands of people come out for such a great event was really amazing,” said Alex Sheehan, Technical Sales Engineer, Tenaris Coiled Tubes. “I'm glad that Tenaris supports such fantastic causes."
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series started 26 years ago in Dallas, Texas and is recognized as the world’s largest and most successful series of 5K run/fitness walk events designed to raise public awareness of breast cancer. From the first event’s 800 participants, the event has expanded to annual Races that attract more than 1.5 million participants and over 100,000 volunteers in 122 locations in the US and 14 internationally.
“It felt great to participate in the Race for a good cause,” said Jane Oh, Key Account Sales Representative, Line Pipe. “ I would like to see more Tenaris teams in events like this to show that we are not just about Pipe, but we care for our community!”
Having invested more than $1 billion since its inception in 1982, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the global leader of the movement to find a cure for breast cancer.
